Ben Matthews is a Researcher in Microbiology with Dr Helen Stratton as well as Laboratory Manager for the SmartWater Research Centre. Ben completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Queensland majoring in Parasitology after which he completed his Honours in Parasitology at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research in conjunction with University of Queensland. Currently he is finalising his PhD part-time with Griffith University where he studied alternative microbial biofilm treatment strategies for water-carrying pipes with Dr Helen Stratton. Ben has a strong research interest in molecular Microbiology and is currently involved in several projects at the SmartWater Research Centre including developing molecular diagnostic methods for pathogen detection in urban waters and examining molecular markers for source tracking of enteric bacteria.
